Moving On

Well, there have been some delays in the film, mostly due to circumstances outside of my control.  But these things have now been dealt with and we are moving things forward, hopefully more rapidly then before. It’s infuriatingly frustrating, however it is pointless getting angry or letting these things get to you.  That is in fact how you loose track of the important things in your life and the project.

In the meantime…

Tom And I have put together a show-reel of work that should hopefully impress at least a couple of people.

And Tomorrow?

We start moving on.  My hope is that it will be a very good day.

How Tired?

Making Movies

It’s not as hard as I thought it could be now that we are on project “No Balls” full time.  What is interesting is just how tired one becomes. The hours make it physically hard whilst the sheer number of mini-decisions and thinking are just exhausting. So I’m tired, but never have I felt that I’m so alive.  I have to pinch myself on the odd occasion just to make sure its really happening.  But it is.

None Disclosure

There is a real limit to the things that I can talk about now that we are deep into the film making process, the script has been developed way past my origonal expectations, the production team greater then we might have hoped for and this week we start casting, or priliminary casting.  It’s a beyond exiting period in my life.  All good people, all good.

Watching is Learning

One of the things we do when we have spare time is watch films that have elements of ours.  So this might be a sporting film, cross dressing film, romance, a bet… its a pretty tireless list.  Some of them are exceptional, there are films out there that are outstanding in every-way.  There are films that I would ever have watched which have stunned me and films that I hoped would be brilliant which have sorely disappointed.   Most of the really big fails have been in my opinion been just because people have an idea and just don’t develop it enough.  I see scenes acted out that have not been thought through, and I see no real rhythm to the stories.  A lot of the stories are to personal with ideas that may seam really good to the writer/director but don’t work.  It’s slightly frightening, that we have to get this right.  I watch something and can tell why is does not work, will that be the case with my own work.  Will I be one of those directors that is shuttered from making a brilliant film?  I think not.  The next few months I’ll be making sure that the script is sharp and as good as it possibly can be, that we work through every scene long before it’s filmed.  I am so determined that this is going to be the bollocks.  And it can be.

40 Days and 40 Nights

Is such a good example of something that could have been utterly brilliant but misses by a frickin’ mile.
